The focus of City League is to develop athletes with the emphasis on stick skills and lacrosse smarts! We will teach your child to play lacrosse in only a few weeks! We de-emphasize body contact in order to provide the best learning environment for newer or recreational players. Contact in City League is progressive, so for the younger ages it is stick-check only, and the older ages it is place and push cross-checking and light body-checking. The contact progression looks like this:
- U7 & U9 - stick check only.
- U11 & U13 - stick check + place and push cross checking.
- Senior (U15 & U17) - stick check, place and push, body contact between equally matched players.
Minimum equipment requirements:
U7 - Helmet, mouthguard, gloves - may wish to include arm guards
U9, U11, U13 & Senior - full equipment
What equipment do you need? See this chart from the Ontario Lacrosse Association.
Please note: Oshawa Blue Knights supply all of the goaltending equipment with the exception of helmet, mouthguard, gloves, and shoes.
